Positive Grid pull out every imaginable stop with this extra-special edition of the Spark MINI. Part of the Custom Artist Series, this coffee-table-friendly monster has been designed with the help of none-other-than Steve Vai. On the aesthetic side of things, you're getting a Bordeaux-red tolex draped cabinet finished with a mandala-printed front grille - all selected by Vai's own hand. Inside, this 10 Watt combo supplies four presets, handing you direct access to authentic Steve-grade tone, namely: Fire, Hot, Mild and Fresh. For good measure, this solid home-rehearsal amp even comes including a jack lead finished with 24K gold-plated plugs and stamped with the Vai logo.
The Positive Grid Spark MINI Vai: Legendary Sound
Plug in your high-grade cable, twist the Preset pot to select the Fresh setting, and you get crystalline cleans. Push up into Mild mode, and a subtle edge is added. In Hot mode, you get a thicker rhythm sound to back up some solid rock-work and, in Fire mode, you're getting pure lead-ready sound. As a tasty bonus on the side, the free Spark App grants access to some exclusive backing tracks and loops taken from Vai's back-catalogue, so you can play along with the master himself and, even if you're not a die-hard Vai fan but love the look of this smart combo, then you're free to browse through the other 100,000+ sounds on offer.

Het is de tweede Spark Mini in ons gezin. De belangrijkste reden om voor de Vai te kiezen was, om 'm onderscheidbaar te houden van de reguliere zwarte Mini. De witte lijkt ons te besmettelijk.
Een absoluut minpunt is de meegeleverde kabel. Hij ziet er mooi uit, maar is van zeer slechte kwaliteit. Dit hoor je gelijk (gekraak). Even een andere simpele kabel gepakt en dan prima geluid.
Het feit dat dit de tweede Mini is, betekend dat de Spark Mini ons bevalt. Het is een superhandig ding om ergens in huis te gaan zitten en lekker te spelen. Het geluid is natuurlijk niet vergelijkbaar met een grotere kast maar is goed genoeg om een beetje te oefenen op de bank. Er zit een kleine subwoofer in, dus je hebt toch genoeg lage geluiden relatief ten opzichte van zo'n klein kastje.
De door Steve Vai geprogrammeerde presets zijn aardig, maar passen niet echt bij mijn speelstijl, dus ik verander ze toch. Dus het gaat dan vooral om het uiterlijk....
